IFD Members complete B.O.S.A.R. Class

By Captain Jeff Serenati
August 6, 2024

Over the last week, eight IFD officers completed the Boat Operators Search and Rescue course (BOSAR) hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard, Rochester station.

This week long course consisted of both class room and hands on training. The course included things like, familiarization of all instruments and tools on board and to become proficient in proper search, rescue and recovery techniques for a person in the water. All of which will aid us with the basic knowledge when working with our neighbors on the water for an emergency. The course also covered proper towing techniques for disabled vessels.

With Marine 1776 now in service and protecting Irondequoit Bay and surrounding areas, this course was exceptional training! The goal is to get as many of our Firefighters to complete this course over the next few years.

Thank you U.S. Coast Guard, Rochester station for hosting this course and the hospitality!
