The last seven days have been quite eventful for your Irondequoit firefighters.

On Sunday 2/26 we took advantage of a unique training opportunity offered to us by fellow firefighters from the 3rd battalion. IFD was able to send four crews to a vacant commercial property in the East Rochester Fire District to train on various topics in a real building prior to demolition. Crews trained on hose line advancement, different types of roof cuts and some firefighter survival skills. Thank you ERFD for allowing us to come out and train!

In the early morning hours of 2/27 crews responded for the reported house fire on Carry Lane. First arriving units found a two car garage well involved with fire, that was attached to the house.

Later in afternoon on 2/27 our crews responded to assist the St. Paul Fire District with an apartment fire in the Westage at the harbor. First arriving units had nothing showing but further reported smoke in the structure and a fire in a ground level apartment.

In the evening of 2/28 IFD units were dispatched for the fire alarm activated at a residence on Densmore Rd. Engine 172 arrived to the residence that was set off the road a bit with nothing showing. A short time later 172 observed smoke presenting from the structure and requested the balance of the structure assignment, which brought additional companies to the scene. Crews worked to extinguish a fire that was traveling in the walls, under some flooring and up to the attic.

Just before midnight on 3/3 crews responded for the radio alarm from the on duty Captain reporting a house fire on Culver rd. Crews worked to extinguish a fire that was burning on the rear of the house as well as inside a few walls and the basement.

All of these calls for service are on top of the rest of our day to day calls including: medical calls, vehicle accidents, storm related calls, fire alarms and other service calls. No firefighters or civilians were injured in any of these calls and the causes remain under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau.

A big thank you to all of our members as well as our mutual aid partners and fill in companies for helping as needed!

That was the venue for my wedding reception in 1984! Glad to see it was put to good use before it was raised!
